Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix was not an exceptional musician in every sense of the word. Self-taught and left-handed, played in a completely strange one for right-handed Fender Stratocaster guitar with the strings reversed. Revolutionized the way you touch guiatarra, developing the use of lever and pedal mainly known as wha-wha. More than that put the figure as the main character of the guitarist in rock bands. His solos and riffs are one of the principal causes for the birth of heavy metal.
Johnny Allen Hendrix was born in Seattle, Washington in 1942. Its name was later changed by his father during childhood for James Marshall Hendrix. At age 16 he started playing guitar, participating in a group called Velvetones. At 17 he won his father's electric guitar and joined the Rocking Kings group which later changed its name to Thomas & The Tomcats. Jimi decided to leave school and enter a parachute battalion of the army, which was soon shut down due to a fractured knee. No school and no longer able to pursue a career in the army decided to devote himself exclusively to music, playing in bars and clubs with his friend Billy Cox in a band called King Kasuals. In 1963 They moved to New York, where he also served as studio musicians, recording and playing with the Isley Brothers, Jackie Wilson and Sam Cooke.
In 1965, one of the many live performances as an escort of several bands, Jimi drew the attention of Little Richard, big star and a pioneer of rock and roll 50s. Despite the excellent reception by the public and good chemistry occurring between the vocalist and guitarist, Little Richard huge ego would not allow a talented guitarist eclipse his stage presence. With the excuse that Hendrix had missed the bus the band after a concert in New York, Little Richard fired him, fortunately not before some of the shows had been duly registered.
Due to the great impact of his performances with Little Richard Jimi gets a two-year contract with Columbia Records. Quickly ceases to be an extra and assembles his own band, Jimmy James and The Blue Flames. The young left-handed guitarist draws attention not only in soils and unpredictable style unheard of until the time, but also by extreme skill in playing the guitar with his teeth or back.
Chas Chandler, bassist of the group The Animals, hear the band and was impressed, asks Jimi to be his manager and shall disclose the band in England. The only condition was that Hendrix, reaching London, was presented to Eric Clapton, in which was promptly answered by Chandler. The admiration between Hendrix and Clapton was mutual, despite the different styles. Mitch Mitchell is said to be the drummer in the band, renamed The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Soon record three singles, Hey Joe, Purple Haze and The Wind Cries Mary, followed by extensive publicity in British radio and television channels. In April 1967 leaves his first LP, Are You Experienced, a classic rock of all time. After a tour as support band in Europe make their debut in America at the Monterey Pop Festival in California, after following in American tour as opening act of the Monkees.
In 1967 comes the second album, Axis: Bold as Love, followed by Electric Ladyland (January 1968) which contained the hit song All Along the Watchtower by Bob Dylan. The following is a phase of many appearances by Hendrix as a musician or composer on albums by various artists. The band is undone and Experience Hendrix assembles a new band with Mitch Mitchell, Billy Cox, the second guitarist Larry Lee and percussionists Juma Sultan and Jerry Velez. The new band's name is Gypsy Sons. Soon it would be replaced by Mitch Mitchell and Buddy Miles band would change its name to Band of Gypsys.
In 1970 the band was reformed and launch Experience The First Rays Of The New Rising Sun, just after changing the name back to Cry Of Love.

The way to the hospital confirmed his death was due to suffocation by his own vomit. There is much controversy about the actual cause of death, but probably Hendrix suffered an overdose of pills tranquilizers.
