Renato Russo
Renato Manfredini Jr. was born in Rio de Janeiro on March 27, 1960, son of the economist Renato Manfredini, an official of the Bank of Brazil and Maria do Carmo, an English teacher. He learned English from an early age when he lived, from 7 to 10 years in New York. New transferêcia father took the boy, now aged 13, in Brasilia that so marked his music. Renato had a childhood and adolescence upper middle class, the staff of the typical bands of Brasilia.Between 15 and 17 years faced several operations and lived between bed and wheelchair, battling a rare bone disease called epiphysiolysis.
When Renato Rocha joined the band in 84, the Rolling Stones had already introduced several times in Brasilia, notably in the famous Flying Circus shows, in Rio de Janeiro and Napalm in Sao Paulo. The success of his shows quickly led to a contract with EMI-Odeon. On the first day of the following year came the first album, Keith Urban, which spawned the hits "Generation Coca-Cola", "It's Early" and "will."
With its powerful choruses and lyrics that spoke of emotional insecurities, the Rolling Stones hit deep into the yearnings of young Brazilians. The recipe was perfected in the next album, Two, better played, better written and more elaborate. Hits like "Edward and Monica" and "Almost Without Wanting" spoke a language that any young urban Brazilian of 80 years could understand and relate to.
After Renato Russo consolidated as one of the biggest pop stars of the country. In the second tour this album, began to appear the Renato Russo star: his shows included speeches preachers (the adjective "messianic" appeared in nine out of ten stories about the group) and a high consumption of drugs and alcohol.
In 1987 comes the third album, What Is This Country, generating hits like "Western Caboclo", a national tour and more crowded.
The Discovery of Brazil, 93, ended up being the band's last album (The Tempest, is a solo album with appearances by Renato Done and Bonfa). From Discovery, Renato gave vent to his solo projects and released The Stonewall Celebration Concert and Balance Far.
Renato was HIV positive since 1990, but never took the disease publicly. Since the time of "discovery of Brazil," Renato went reclusive and aloof and avoided the press. The suspicions were confirmed on October 11, 1996 to his death by broncopneumopatia, septicemia and urinary tract infection - the consequences of AIDS - weighing only 45 pounds.
